Catedral de Santa María de la Sede - SEVILLA (ANDALUCÍA)

THE BELL CHAMBER
This chamber - the seventh and final one that can be visited - has certain articles on display related to the Giralda's primal role - that of belfry, which is equipped with four "coruses" or revolving bells and hammers.
At the back a metal frame is displayed, which was constructed in the sixties, and recently replaces by a wooden one - as used in times past; the cross-section of a bell hangs from it and an old clapper, with other held up and leaning on their sides.
IN the middle there is a bell on a pedestal that does not belong to the Giralda but to the roof of the High Altar; the period is Gothic - dating from 1509 and its autor was Cristóbal Cabrera.
In the foreground are the remains of the San Cristóbal bell which was damaged on 14th February 1981. Amongst the four fragments can be found the semlting date - 1663 - the image of its dedication, and the name of ist author Juan Gerardo, who elaborated it in Seville. It weights 19 hundred weight 55 pounds.
