THE MUDEJAR CATHEDRAL CHAMBER
The edifice of the Mosque was consecrated as Christian church in 1248 and used as cathedral until the start of its gradual demolition in 1434. As it changed over the years prior to being demolished, the building's style became hybrid, Mudéjar, and it housed the objects on display here.
Most notable to the back are the leaves of a 14th century door thay may have belonged to the Sagrario Chapel; they show Gothic writing and verses from the Qur'an.
To the front in a transparent case are remnants of regal vestments dating from the 13th century.
The tombstone to the left is that of Petrus de Cera, one of the knights who conquered Seville in November of 1248; he later died in our city on 21 January, 1265.
The tombstones to the right are somewhat more recent, perhaps dating from the late 15th century. The larger one marked the tomb of María Alonso, the mother of an archdeacon of the Cathedral, while the smaller one marked the burial place of Alonso Díaz and his family.
